Nobel Peace Price

The Nobel Peace Prize is bequeathed by the Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel. Unlike all the other Nobel Prizes, the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony is held in Oslo in Norway, and it is the Norwegian Nobel Committee who decides the winner of the Prize. The Nobel Peace Prize is presented every year on December 10 ( the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death).

The last Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony was held on December 10 2009, and it was the American president Barack Obama who won the prize.

The Nobel Peace Prize Committee chose Obama "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples." A lot of people were against Obama winning this prize, considering he is the commander in chief of two wars at the moment. But looking at Alfred Nobel's will, saying that the Peace Prize should be awarded to the person who:
"shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses," Obama seems to be a good candidate. Obama has made an effort to cooperate with other nations, also nations former president Bush didn't cooperate with. He see the importance of working and dealing with world problems together. Another reason for winning the war is America's fight against terror.

Even though Obama's visit to Norway was short, he managed to impress people all over the world with his Nobel Peace Prize speech. In his speech Obama talks about how grateful he is for being awarded the prize, even though he think that a lot of other people might deserve the prize more. He mention a lot of former Peace Prize winners like Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Woodrow Wilson, and he talk about "the concept of war". Further on he talk about the war on terror, and how it sometimes is necessary to fight for peace.

I think Obama made some good points in his speech, and he makes it clear that the world have to work together to fight the war against terror and to make world peace.
